Birds and Twigs | Rie Sheridan Rose

Birds and Twigs | Rie Sheridan Rose

A flight of birds taking off in the middle of the kite festival.

A twist of vine against the sky.

Lovely kite soaring in the trees.

Wooden parrot in the Rainforest Cafe.

Thorn making its point in my backyard.

Rie Sheridan Rose multitasks. A lot. She has wanted to be a photographer since she was ten. Only now she doesn’t decapitate as many of her subjects. Her photographs have appeared on several independent book covers, and in Ghostlight: Magazine of Terror. She has also authored eight novels, six poetry chapbooks, and lyrics for dozens of songs. More info on www.riewriter.com. She tweets as @RieSheridanRose

These photos were a combination of shots from the Austin Kite Festival – one of Sheridan Rose’s favorite opportunities to shoot, and some vignette still pieces from her backyard. The parrot was in San Antonio at the Rain Forest Cafe. The idea of melding them all into a collection came from the inspiration that nature gives her, and the way that birds and twigs are constant companions.
